American Scary: Movie Review

You’re ten years old…its late at night…and you sneak downstairs and flip on the tv. You scroll through the channels looking for that one special show that only comes on late at night. You try and be as quiet as you can so as not to wake your parents and get yelled at for being up past your bedtime. As you go past infomercials and late night wrestling you find what you are looking for…late night horror hosting. Late night horror hosting is as American as apple pie and as scary as the bad b-movies they showed. These unsung heroes of the night bring nothing but the best movies…scratch that…bring you nothing but the best entertainment…ok they are cheesy and campy and the movies they show are just as bad, but we all love them anyways.

American Scary goes into the world of horror hosting and explores its history and some of its classic hosts through the years. People such as Count Gor De Vol, Elvira, Zacherly, etc etc…paved the way for what we see today on public access or the internet. Every state and region of the country has their own late night horror host that shows these bad horror films for the masses.

It shows them having a fellowship for one another and shows what they do in order to put on their shows and how much fun they had doing it and what they could get away with. For a brief period of time I was part of a horror hosting team with Rob Dimension and Sal Valente, and while we have gone our separate ways with other projects I will admit it was a fun time. So I know just what these other hosts are going through as they sit there explain to us the viewers in this film how much fun they have doing what they love to do.

I recommend you go out and check this film out for yourself because even if you’re not a fan of late night horror hosting you will be after this film.

Be safe and stay up late,
Jon Bolton
